Take some time to learn a few simple steps to begin contributing to a document about the future of the town of Pulaski, VA. You may edit these documents if you feel that you can clarify or improve them. We hope to use the collective wisdom of our citizens to assist the Town Council in making sure that it is successful in actively working toward it's stated priorities for the town. There are 9,000 people in this town who have at least one idea or suggestion which would make our town better. See if you can think of one or two and add it to the appropriate priority page. Have fun and please be polite.
Council Planning Goals
The town council (interesting note, if you rank the importance of the people by the size of their photo it gives an interesting insight to how the council/staff are viewed) held a two day retreat on the 13th and 14th of February, 2009. The purpose of the retreat was to establish goals and priorities for the town and for the council for the current and near term. One result of that meeting was a list of six priorities
. The next step is for the town staff to address the priorities in early March and help the council develop a plan of action. The plan should be completed in spring of this year. Since we have often heard the town manager state that certain projects or plans must be deferred because of the heavy load on town staff, perhaps we can assist in finding ways to make sure that the council's stated priorities are acted upon quickly.
The Goals:
Planning for a Progressive Community
- Complete the identified boundary line adjustments
- Complete the Southeast Neighborhood Renewal grant and proceed if funded
- Update inventory of available industrial buildings and establish a regular schedule to do so
Provide State of the Art Service & Support
- Set in motion a plan/process/time line for doing a Town wide upgrade on water and sewer; continue upgrades; review the 1&1Study to identify weaknesses in the water system
- Design, locate, and build the public safety building, including approaching the County about possible joint emergency services building and personnel
Become the Showplace of Southwest Virginia
- Rebuild the train station, including the Visitor's Center and the enhancements to the Trail Head
- Completion of the Fine Arts Center and the completion of the Theater
- Build the Raymond F. Ratcliffe Museum and get the train set into the building
- Enhance our recreational assets to include:
- Bathrooms at Heritage Park
The Town of Pulaski's success is assured by a focus on Unique Economic Opportunities
- Implement the The NEEMO Project
- Establish a Business Recruitment Plan and System to address actions/benchmarks to insure communication between Council and staff about these efforts to insure communication between Council and staff about these efforts

- Develop a mural on the wall on the wall

- Create a pedestrian area with seating, shelter on the pad
- Consider sidewalk between First and Second Street on the east side
- Develop a campaign to initiate “Staring at a New Era” to kick the Vision off and get people involved
Make the Town Inviting and Accessible
- Complete a commercial signage inventory and develop an approach to update/ eliminate
- Identify strategies/ areas to allow billboards and other signage to increase amount of advertising
- Resolve the issue of whether to have two-way traffic downtown (goals, appropriate information, citizen input, options explored, cost)
- Continuing to pursue the widening of Rt. 99
